Entrevista com Wolf Hoffmann do Accept

    Em uma excelente fase desde que retomou suas atividades, o Accept disponibilizou em 2017 o álbum ao vivo Restless And Wild, o novo de estúdio The Rise Of Chaos e realizou um show espetacular no Wacken Open Air, além disso, estão com turnê marcada para o Brasil neste mês de novembro.

    Para saber um pouco mais do que significou estes novos registros para a banda, este mundo caótico que estamos vivendo, a expectativa desta nova turnê pelo país com uma data com o Anthrax em São Paulo no Tom Brasil e o que levou o Accept ser o Accept, o repórter Fernando R. R. Júnior do Rock On Stage conversou com o líder e fundador da banda ( ao lado do baixista Peter Baltes ), o sempre atencioso e excelente guitarrista Wolf Hoffmann. Confira a conversa nas linhas abaixo.

Rock On Stage: Nos anos 80 tínhamos a Guerra Fria e agora o mundo parece estar num caos maior, como que este momento que estamos vivendo reflete para inspirar vocês na composição das músicas de The Rise Of Chaos?
Wolf Woffmann: O título The Rise Of Chaos ( ascensão do caos ) é meio auto-explicativo... se olharmos a possibilidade de que o Universo e tudo nele poderia ser o resultado de 'CAOS', PODEMOS acreditar em algo - POSSIVELMENTE - positivo! E não devemos nos esquecer, que 'CAOS' esteve sempre lá ou aqui - só, não sabíamos tanto quanto sabemos hoje e, além disso, hoje demoram alguns segundos para se obter tudo em sua sala de estar ... 24/7 ( N.E.: ou seja, 24 horas nos 7 dias da semana ligados ).

Rock On Stage: E pensando no conceito do álbum, se estamos vivendo uma ascensão do caos, o que virá depois em sua opinião e o que podemos fazer para evitar?
Wolf Woffmann: Não é um álbum conceitual, mas, a ideia das impressões que recebemos é mais caótica do que é realmente e inspirou a canção título - sem dúvidas sobre isso. E, como eu disse, temos de ponderar as duas possibilidades - pode ser bom, pode ser ruim. E a única coisa que podemos fazer é - empurrar para trás, o que nos divide, nos confunde e nos engana.

    Esteja ciente das armadilhas e esteja ciente do poder que os seres humanos possuem ... 'Bolas para muros' pode ser uma ideia séria e atemporal. Eu acredito na calma fria e constante da vela - não importa o quão alto as ondas.

Rock On Stage: Este ano de 2017 o Accept lançou o álbum ao vivo "Restless And Live", o "The Rise Of Chaos" e registrou o show no Wacken Open Air com uma orquestra para um futuro lançamento, além dos shows pelo mundo. Como você define 2017, que ainda não acabou para a banda?
Wolf Woffmann:  Na verdade - que ano, que ano! Estamos na discagem rápida - sem dúvida sobre isso !!! E o WACKEN mostrou claramente onde estamos hoje! Um grande sonho meu se tornou realidade e agora é muito tentador pensar algo um pouco maior. Eu me desafiei e estou lhe dizendo, que a reação dos fãs e da mídia me encorajou... a pensar sobre o próximo passo.

    2017 não acabou e estamos gratos por terminar o ano com uma turnê na América do Sul, porque os fãs daí, nos enviarão para casa com uma enorme onda de energia! Isso é o que eles fazem - eles nos estimulam para cima e esperamos devolver o favor!!!

Rock On Stage: Esta tour brasileira marca a quinta visita no Brasil, a terceira com esta formação, quais as expectativas de vocês para este novo encontro com os fãs brasileiros?
Wolf Woffmann: Pura loucura e esperamos que você acredite que realmente gostamos de tocar com uma audiência selvagem!!!

Rock On Stage: Desde que vi a minha primeira foto do Accept nos anos 80, uma marca da banda foram as guitarras Flying V, explique o porque de sua escolha para tantos anos e tantos discos excelentes com a pegada que podemos classificar como "Som do Accept"?
Wolf Woffmann:  Fácil - temos o nosso "manual", uma vez que em quase quatro décadas de Accept, os músicos podem estar dentro e fora - o tecido, a estrutura, o gosto, o som, o groove, os temas, o espírito não mudou desde o início dos anos 80! A equipe central nunca mudou... e isso garante ao Accept ser o Accept. O que não significa, que desistimos de sempre nos esforçamos para estarmos melhores hoje do que ontem!

Rock On Stage: No show de São Paulo desta tour brasileira vocês vão dividir o palco com o Anthrax, um dos Big Four do Thrash Metal americano e dos grandes nomes mundiais. E acredito que será a primeira vez que isto acontece. Como está a expectativa para este show especificamente?
Wolf Woffmann: Eu não tenho ideia.. e sim é a primeira vez. Mas, respeitamos bandas que são profissionais e com certeza uma lenda. A grande coisa de hoje é que os fãs são muito mais tolerantes. Você tem que trabalhar talvez um pouco mais duro convencer "os outros" que você pode manter o seu próprio. Tenho certeza, que todos os fãs estarão felizes com o evento!

Rock On Stage: Como você avalia o mercado musical atualmente em que as bandas precisam estar quase que constantemente na estrada, dosarem os shows com os clássicos e a cobrança dos fãs de Metal por músicas novas?
Wolf Woffmann: Difícil de dizer. Não é mais fácil percorrer e, como você pode ver, nada é impensável mais... As bandas fazem todos os tipos de coisas para vender... e algumas até vendem - foi grande momento. Mas, eu não sou o único que finge saber, onde tudo isso vai. Temos certeza de um aumento de energia - como eu disse após a nossa ausência por quase 15 anos.

    É como se uma luz fosse levantada e temos de nos forçar a diminuir de vez em quando e é isso que fazemos. Nós não fazemos tantas turnês quanto você pensa e isso é de propósito. E ainda assim parece como se estivéssemos em todos os lugares apenas ontem...

Rock On Stage: Muito obrigado pela entrevista, e para fechar, gostaria de saber quando você está de folga, o que costuma fazer como lazer e existe tempo para ouvir álbuns de outras bandas? De quais você ouviu ultimamente e que te marcaram?
Wolf Woffmann: Adivinhe: eu estou trabalhando como um louco e eu sempre fui muito isolado, eu tenho muito poucas influências - exceto música clássica! Eu não sou o músico típico, eu estou correndo contra o tempo e sempre! Eu sou conduzido... sempre fui! Obrigado por me receber! E espero vê-lo em um dos nossos shows!

Rock On Stage: In the years 80 we had the Cold War and now the world seems to be in greater chaos, as that this moment we are living reflects to inspire you in the composition of the songs?
Wolf Woffmann: THE RISE OF CHAOS is sure self explanatory… if we look at the possibility that the Universe and everything in it could be the result of CHAOS we COULD believe at something - POSSIBLY - positive! And we should not forget, that CHAOS was always there or here - only, we did not know as much as we know today and on top of that - today it takes seconds to get everything into your living room …24/7

Rock On Stage: And thinking of the concept of the album, if we are living an ascension of chaos, what will then come in your opinion and what can we do to avoid?
Wolf Woffmann: It is not a concept album, but the idea of the impressions we get is more chaotic then not, inspired the Title song - no doubt about it. And as I say, we have to weight both possibilities - can be good, can be bad.

    And the only thing we can do is - pushing back, what divides us, confuses us and mislead us. Be aware of the traps and be aware of the power we HUMANS have…BALLS TO THE WALL may be a serious, timeless idea. I believe in the calm and cool and steady sail - no matter how high the waves.

Rock On Stage: This year's 2017 Accept released the live album "Restless and Live", "The Rise of Chaos" and recorded the show at Wacken Open Air with an orchestra for a future release, in addition to the shows around the world. How do you define 2017, which is not yet finished for the band?
Wolf Woffmann: Indeed - what a year, what a year! We are on speed dial - no doubt about it!!! And WACKEN showed clearly where we are today! A huge dream of mine became reality and it is now very tempting to think a little bid bigger. I have challenged myself and I am telling you, that the reaction of the fans and media emboldened me… to think about the next step.

    2017 is not over and we are grateful to finish the year with a tour in South America, because the fans here, will send us home with a huge power surge! That’s what they do - they pump us up and we hope to return the favor!!!!!

Rock On Stage: This Brazilian tour marks the 5th visit in Brazil, the third with this formation, what are your expectations for this new meeting with Brazilian fans?
Wolf Woffmann: Sheer madness and : we hope you believe we do indeed enjoy performing with a wild audience!

Rock On Stage: Since I saw my first Accept photo in the years 80, a brand of the band were the Flying V guitars, explain why your choice for so many years and so many excellent discs with the footprint that we can classify as "sound of Accept”?
Wolf Woffmann: Easy - we have our “manual” since nearly 4 decades and musicians may be in and out - the fabric, the structure, the taste, the sound, the groove, the themes, the spirit have not changed since the early 80’s! The core team has never changed… and that guarantees ACCEPT to be ACCEPT. Which does not mean, that we give up to always strive for being better today, than yesterday!

Rock On Stage: In the São Paulo show of this Brazilian tour you will divide the stage with the Anthrax, one of the Big Four of the Thrash Metal and American world and I believe it will be the first time this happens. How is the expectation for this show specifically?
Wolf Woffmann: I have no idea - it is the first time. But - we respect Bands who are professionals and sure a legend. The great thing of today is, that fans are so much more tolerant. You have to work perhaps a bit harder to convince “the others” that you can hold your own. I am sure, all fans will be happy with the event!

Rock On Stage: How do you evaluate the musical market currently in which bands have to be almost constantly on the road, dosing concerts with the classics and collecting Metal fans for new songs?
Wolf Woffmann: Hard to say. It is not easier to break through and as you can see - nothing is unthinkable anymore… Bands do all kinds of things to sell … and some even sell out - big time. But I am not the one who pretend to know, where all this goes.

    We sure ahave a power surge - as I said after our nearly 15 year absence. It is as if a lit was lifted and we have to force us to slow down from time to time and that is what we do. We do not tour as much as you think and that is on purpose. And yet it seems as if we have been everywhere just yesterday...

Rock On Stage: Thank you very much for the interview, and to close, I would like to know when you are off, what do you usually do as leisure and there is time to listen to albums from other bands? What have you heard lately and they've been marking you?
Wolf Woffmann: Guess what - I am working like crazy and I have always been pretty isolated, I have very few influences - except classical music! I am not the typical musician - I am running against time - always! I am driven ….. always have been! Thank you for having me! And hope to see you at one of our shows!
